Unitech Interface Solution

We were challenged with the responsibility of adapting the Unitech Test Plate to a Production Plate. Our priority was to design a fitting to support the interface, draft a mock-up of the solution, get approval by client and generate an AutoCad print and arrange for a machine shop to be on stand-by to manufacturer if approved by customer. We had the problem and solution completed and ready for welding within 24 hours. This photo is the result of that effort.

Post #2 Lessons Learned 1st Entry, Rick

  • Make request of FMC Free Issue Materials earlier in the process. It has been suggested that the earlier we make the request, the earlier we can get the complete package.
  • Have a shortage report meeting as soon as possible to identify the expediting scope at least 4 weeks prior to project delivery.
  • Develop a foolproof process that will allow for tubing of skid without couplers and a preventative measure to ensure that the couplers are verified before weld process is authorized/initiated. (NCR)
  • Have Long Lead Items better identified to ensure that the project doesn't suffer scheduling interruption.
  • Improve communication with FMC project leadership (both ways) concerning status of project and status of material availability; shortages; progress; issues and concerns.
  • Improve coordination between welding shop and final assembly of skids (personnel allocation to project activity)

HDS Lesson Learned #1

The intent of this Blog is to conduct an after project Lessoned Learned remote briefing for all members of the Helix HDS project team.

The objectives of this briefing is to:
  1. Identify opportunities to improve the welding and assembly processes related to the project.
  2. Request input from our customer as to quality or manufacturing improvement suggestions that can be implemented in follow-up project activities.
  3. Review the corrective actions applied to the project.
  4. Summarize the path forward for implementation of Lessons Learned.
